Description
Description:
This delightful vintage advertisement from the 1920s promotes a fun and interactive competition for children, hosted by TAN-SAD, makers of scooters and toy prams. Titled “Boys and Girls—here’s a fine Competition with the jolliest prizes,” the ad invites children to complete a coloured picture puzzle to win stylish prizes such as a cap, jersey, shorts and socks for boys, or a tam, jersey, skirt and socks for girls—ideal for wearing while riding a TAN-SAD scooter!
The competition is cleverly used to promote TAN-SAD’s latest innovation, the Spring Scooter, which features a patented spring frame designed for smooth riding and extra comfort. Priced at 21 shillings, the scooter is advertised as a top-quality British-made product, combining durability with fun. An illustration of the scooter, plus excited children riding it, adds to the joyful appeal of the piece.
The TAN-SAD company, based at Jasper Works, Birmingham, was known throughout the early 20th century for producing high-quality children’s ride-ons, including scooters, toy prams, and other wheeled toys.
The advertisement has been mounted on black cardboard and measures approximately 12 x 15 cm (4.7 x 5.9 inches). It is a wonderful piece for collectors of vintage toy advertisements, British manufacturing history, or early 20th-century children’s culture.
